CIP process of gold , meanings Cyanide-carbon adsorption gold extraction process has become an important method in gold cyanide extraction process. Its basic principle is that activated carbon can adsorb liquid gold in alkaline cyanide solution. In the 1970s, the research and establishment of the desorption of gold-loaded carbon and the regeneration method of gold-removing carbon made the activated carbon recyclable. The carbon slurry method became the main gold extraction method and was rapidly promoted, giving full play to the advantages of carbon slurry process with low investment and low cost and the ability to process low-grade gold-containing ores.

Application Areas of CIP process of gold 

CIP process of gold is suitable for the beneficiation of large-scale gold mines with high grade and gold mines with high associated silver and copper content.

The CIP Process of gold mainly includes impurity removal, pre-leaching concentration, leaching and adsorption, desorption electrolysis, hydrometallurgy, activated carbon regeneration, tailings filtration, sewage treatment and other stages.


1. Slurry impurity removal: Cyanide slurry should remove impurities such as sawdust before adsorption to prevent sawdust from adsorbing gold in the slurry and preventing it from mixing into the rich carbon, and to prevent sawdust from clogging the carbon screen.


2. Pre-leaching concentration; Usually, in order to achieve a suitable leaching concentration, the slurry must be dehydrated by a thickener before leaching. In addition to affecting the leaching time, the concentration will also affect the suspended state of the activated carbon.


3. Leaching and adsorption: The impurity-removed and concentrated slurry is pumped into a high-efficiency leaching tank arranged in a stepped shape. Generally, 5-8 tanks are configured in series. Cyanide is added to the first two tanks, and activated carbon is added to the last five tanks. The slurry and activated carbon are adsorbed in countercurrent. The activated carbon becomes gold-loaded carbon due to the adsorption of gold in the slurry. After the adsorption is completed, the slurry containing gold-loaded carbon is fed to the carbon-lifting screen through an air lifter, and the carbon-lifting screen separates the activated carbon and the slurry.


4. Desorption and electrolysis: Usually, the desorption of gold-loaded carbon and the electrolytic deposition of liquid gold are completed in a closed system. Under high temperature and high pressure conditions, the gold-loaded carbon can be quickly desorbed and electrolyzed into gold mud and lean carbon. The main equipment includes desorption column, pickling tank, heater, filter, desorption liquid tank, electrolytic tank, etc.


5. Smelting: The obtained gold mud can be directly smelted into gold ingots after simple pickling and impurity removal. By using hydrometallurgy, the purity of gold ingots can reach more than 99.99%


6. Regeneration of activated carbon: The activated carbon after desorption is first washed with acid to remove carbonate and other accumulations. After being returned for use several times, it needs to be thermally activated to restore the adsorption activity of the carbon, and then it can be recycled. The main equipment includes activated carbon regeneration kiln, water quenching tank, fine carbon separation screen, etc.

Working Principle

CIP process of gold. Firstly, raw material is crushed into less than 10mm by different types of crushers; secondly, crushed material will be ground and classified into 90% of 200mesh, then fine powder will get into thickner, after concentration, add chemical and leach in the leaching tank. After leaching, we can use activated carbon to adsorb gold, then get gold loaded carbon. Finally we can use electrolysis equipment or fire to get gold bar.In CIP process of gold (carbon in leach) process, activated carbon acts like a sponge to aurocyanide and other complex ions in solution. Hard carbon particles (much larger than the ore particle sizes) can be mixed with the ore and cyanide solution mixture. The gold cyanide complex is adsorbed onto the carbon until it comes to an equilibrium with the gold in solution. Because the carbon particles are much larger than the ore particles, the coarse carbon can then be separated from the slurry by screening using a wire mesh.
